What would be the first reason that a newly planted conifer tree would drop its needles after 6 months?

this is the second time I have planted in this area and have been watering regularly.

planted this one last fall, now it is dropping its needles already like the last one did.

what would be the first suspicion for the reason of this and why so?

btw, this is a Tsuga Canadensis or Canadian Hemlock.

  1. I'm not sure, but I think Tsugas don't care for full sunlight. Look it up on the Net for soil conditions and shade preferences; it might be happier somewhere else in the garden.

    There'll be pretty conifers that lke the situation - again look on the Net for summat that's happy there.

    Have you checked soil Ph levels, btw? That could be a factor, as could prevailing wind.


  2. The first thing that would kill a pine is either too much or not enough water.

    The second reason would be blight.

  3. maybe there is something in the soil that you dont know about and its poisoning them.

  4. i would test the soil all conifers like acid soil.
