People have them in their yards.like an ornament,and they are always black,why?

The original lawn jockey wasn't a jockey at all -- just a little boy who would take the reins of the horses when gentlemen rode up, and walk the horses to a paddock or stable. And yes, the little boy was black and that's why the lawn ornament is black.

BTW, I've seen them in the lawns of black families, and they were white, so go figure...
