If every species of primate (including humans) were to suddenly die out, what species do you think would be the most probable to rise to a new, sentient, intelligent species like we were, and why?

  1. let's face it, humans are fairly barbaric. We spend more of our resources inventing ways to kill each other than anything.

Other animals have more important things to do, like surviving.

I think chimpanzees or orang utangs are the best suited to take over. Whales, elephants and dolphins do not have the manual dexterity to build and create things on land. (Yes, animals do create things).

Although elephants may be better citizens of the planet, the next species of apes wuld take over and run things.

Maybe they would do a better job and be more environmentally friendly than humans.

  2. If we could communicate with them, we'd likely discover that plenty of other species are already sentient.  Intelligence would depend on your definition and criteria, and the degree of development of the native mental capacity.  If we wanted to, I think we could develop and breed intelligence into other species.  The best candidates would be those with genetic specifications (DNA) closest to humans in those areas relevant to specific kinds and degrees of brain structure.

  3. Something cybernetic, probably...

  4. Unless Human being creates a biological being at it's image (heard that before), unless human being creates a cyborg or a self reprogramable robot of some kind, the answer is none. You have to understand that human beings are the only life species that create things. In fact human beings are the only thing in the universe and the infinity that has a consciousness to create.

An atom doesn't stop and say "hey I think I'll try to change my rotation today" a rock doesn't decide to create a table, a solar system doesn't think either, a galaxy and even a universe can't think and create, but we do. And we're compose of atoms and part of a gigantic atom which it's particles are our universe therefore we are the consciousness of the infinity, we're the one who thinks and creates.

So, if mankind disappear off the face of the earth, only other mankind from another planet can come here and create something. Besides that it's only reactions of mater and energies and the monkeys that are left fighting over bananas.

  5. I think, the Homo erectus modernus.

But we've passed the time that there are Homo Sapiens, Erectus, and other species, so I think there are no more species today.

  6. I think elephants are the non primates with the most potential.  They have a complex social structure, rudimentary language with lots of potential for expressing complex thought, long life spans (they can live long enough for individuals to learn a lot, unlike squid and octopi which are smart but lack complex social structure and long life spans)and a manipulative appendage. (unlike dolphins)  Plus adult elephants don't have many natural predators.

  7. logically, it would be the species with the following characteristics: large brain, good ability to communicate, and ability to use objects as tools.  Most likely it would be another mammal.  I would suggest dolphins, given that at a constant rate of evolution they may achieve "conciousness" before any other mammal, but they would never be able to build a civilization until they evolved some kind of hands, which would take a lot longer.

The first species to make it to civilization would probably be another mammal, one that could easily evolve hands.

  8. There are multiple examples revealed by recent research that shows how intelligent other species are. Most simply lack the ability to built tools and technology. Research the topic of other species intelligence for a bit and you'll be surprised.
