What would be the reason someone does not have a sense of smell?

I was never able to smell anything

  1. you say never? as in your entire life? well, anosmia (or lack of sense of smell) can be caused by several things. maybe your nose is congested, or the nasal passage is blocked, but your case sounds different. you may have an abnormality in the olfactory nerve. this is a cranial nerve (that means it connects your nose to your brain and identifies odors).

    you should go to a doctor, preferrably a neurologist, and have him examine your cranial nerves. its a routine examination.. you know with the hammer on the knee, flashlight in the eyes, and all that. its best if you seek advice young man. good luck to you!


  2. Nasal passages clogged up.  Surgery sometimes required if that is it.
