Question:

What would be the right size for a corn header on a John Deere 9570 combine?

Considering that the combine should be capable of harvest 200+ bu/acre corn.

  1. A six or eight row would fight you perfectly any bigger you'll be throwing corn out the back end. Guys up here try to run 16 row corn heads on 9870's in 120-150 bushel corn and you can see the corn comeing out the back. We run a 2388 and a 2188 with 8 rows and a Gleaner L2 with a 6 row and they are perfect can cut round 5-7mph.


  2. in my opinion, bigger is better.  but you have to consider other things.  i use an eight row on my 2188.  i would love to go to a twelve row but then i would have to trailer the head between a lot of farms because of width.  if road travel isnt an issue for you i would go with a twelve row in 200 bu corn. a 16 row in 150 or less.  something else to consider is the shape and size of your farms. if you have some odd shaped or skinny places make sure your head will fit.  i like big headers because when it comes time to sell them they hold there value better. for me anyway.
