  1. It all depends on the height and experience of the child, an 11 year old rider might be much more experienced than say a 15 year old rider, if you get where I'm coming from.

  2. get something around 14.2-15 hands. anything smaller and you'll outgrow it and have to go through the process of selling your best friend, or paying to keep a horse you cant use. 14.2-15 hands is small horse size... small enough that a kid could handle it and get a saddle on by age 8-10 but large enough that an adult could also ride without looking stupid or hurting the horse.

  3. Age doesn't matter, height/weight matters.  How big are you right now?  How big are your parents?  Really, while you're still growing, all you can do is check your height/weight every few years and decide if you're still riding the right size horse- or get a much larger horse than you need right now and grow into it later.

  4. Well, a 14-15 hand horse could last you forever if you get the right horse.  Otherwise, 8-11 (approximately depending on what size of kid you are!) you could right a 12-13 hand horse.

Part of it though depends on what you want to do and what type of horse it is.  A stocky POA will be able to carry more than some of the finer breeds.

    Best wishes!
