If you could choose any female musician (and you had use of a time machine, just to make it fun)

Mine would be:

Drums: Janet Weiss (Quasi/Sleater-Kinney)

Bass: Kim Deal (The Breeders/Pixies/The Amps)

Lead guitar: Carrie Brownstein (Excuse 17/Sleater-Kinney)

Rhythm guitar: Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses)

Vocals: Selene Vigil (7 Year B*tch)

Thats if I didnt have use of a time machine, if I did, I would swap Vigil for Mia Zapata from The Gits. yup.

  1. Oh, I like your taste in music!

You want us to condense it to ONE band??? I'll try.

    Liz Phair - Lead guitar

    Sarah Blasko - Vocals

    Sia Furler - Vocals

Chan Marshall (Cat power) - Vocals

I'll borrow Kristin Hersh from you

Adele Pickvance - (The Go Betweens) - Bass

    Amanda Palmer - Keys

And, the drummer in Le Tigre, whose name escapes me.

Edit - You are correct. My mind does mysterious things. In fact, after I submitted my answer, I realised that the combination of those artists would probably sound hideous anyway.

Regarding the drummer - I *think* I was thinking Alana Skyring from The Grates - but even that, I'm not convinced about - still, she's cute ;)

The Breeders are touring Australia too (in August), and I cantfuckingwait!

  2. oooo, some good bands going on here

Lately I've been leaning towards something with a more funky feel:

    Macy Gray on Vocals

    D'Arcy (Smashing Pumpkins) on bass

    Liz Phair on guitar

Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz's drummer) on drums

  3. British band the Slits:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Slits

    Favourite song: "Typical Girls".

  4. I don’t know, but I would be real mad if it did not have, Alanis Morissette, Kate Bush, Marcia Griffiths, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Marlena Shaw, Janis Joplin, Brenda Russell writing and singing finally 4 Non Blondes alongside Billie Holiday to name but a few!!

    edit:

    can i add

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Teena Marie, Oleta Adams

  5. Alright I'll confess, despite being an anti-Feminist....an androgynous male, spandex clad 80's headbanger, I have admired many female musicians for their talent. Only on vocals and bass guitar, the rest has yet to be played correctly by a woman.

Phantom Blue - an All Female Hard Rock outfit from L.A.,  -

I have always thought they were equally hot, but Kim was always my favorite, unlike many female musicians today, she is well-trained and has played with many respectable artists after leaving Phantom Blue.

    Warlock - a German Female-Fronted Power Metal band from the 80's -

This woman would jump Avril Lavigne's bones and shred her to pieces!

Edit: Janis Joplin sounded like death.

  6. Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill) on Rythm Guitar

Poly Styrene (X Ray Spex) on Vocals

Ruyter Suys (Nashville p***y) on Lead Guitar (you have to hear her solo Oh man she is great!)

Kira Roessler (Black Flag) on Bass

Maureen Tucker (Velvet Underground) on Drums

  7. you left out Pat Benatar and the sisters from Heart. throw in a bit of Amy Lee and you have a great female band. oh, Don't forget Lita Ford
