What would be your thoughts if Nascar decided to make every race like the all-star race?[More Inside]?

Break the races down into four segments, have a half time and have the double file restarts on each segment. What are the Pro's and Con's? Thanks!

  1. not a bad idea  cept maybe just 1 break right at half time an after that lets go racing boys

  2. i believe there have been times in the nascar truck series (i could be wrong here - i haven't researched it myself) where they did used to take a break in the middle.  and other people have suggested bringing that to the cup series, especially for the fans so they can go buy more stuff at the concessions stands, and use the facilities.

i love the double file restart idea, although that almost defeats the possibility of someone getting their lap back by outracing the frontrunner right off the line.  but that could be worked out in some other way, or maybe it shouldn't.  there is something to be said for having to battle your way through lapped traffic - especially in that it makes it exciting - but i think double file restarts could be just as exciting.

finally, i agree with many i've heard recently about shortening sprint cup races. doing so would definitely make the racing more "intense" (like the truck series), but probably wouldn't go over well with sponsors, track promotors, advertisers, and others who benefit from having longer races. some of the tracks in particular are targets for doing so - at least by the drivers and crew chiefs.  it wouldn't have to be all of the tracks, just some.

interesting ideas, although i'm guessing they are not going to be implemented any time soon.

  3. I think it would work for the allstar race.. Leave the other races alone...I think they should maybe add points to the 3 non points races (nothing to do with Dale Jr), but with points at stake..There were teams using this allstar race as a test for the 600 I scanned a bunch of teams last night, I heard so much talk about this and that, how is this gonna work next week etc etc. If there were points at stake..It would be a totally different race it would be serious..face it its points that count, money nah the big teams whats a million $$, face it its points that count. again I had a couple people nearly fell asleep during the allstar race...Congrats Kasey, and a great race today in Iowa 3rd place finish in the Camping World race at Rusty's track...

  4. Double file restarts- YES!! Keep the lap-down cars to the back.

4 quarters- Heck NO!!!! Most of it was just positioning.

Keep that part just for the All-Star.

  5. Good question. I love the double file restarts, that was really cool. The segments every 100-150 laps wouldn't be bad either. I do like the half time idea but I would hate to mess around what we have now. Would I like a caution during a long green flag run, yes. Does it really live up to what Nascar should be (a race, not a show), no. I think there definitely should be double file restarts though. The All*Star race is a show/race so it was cool to add those tweaks in it but the races need to stay traditional.

  6. 4 Quarters?!  Halftime?!  Shouldn't this question be in the Football section?!

If you're gonna start thinking about making all the races like the All-Star race, then let's start thinking about making all the qualifying like the Daytona 500.

Let's leave well enough alone... NASCAR officials would dork it up anyway.

  7. I like the double file restarts and the 4 different quarters plus a halftime. I'm sure it would make the non-NASCAR fans think of it as more as a sport. But I'm content with single-file restarts and 500 straight laps.

  8. I like the way the races are set up now, if they were all done the way of the all star race, there would be nothing spectacular about it, other than the narrowed playing field..

Although a break at the half way point's not a bad idea..

  9. I can see which direction your heading and it is intresting.

Personnally I've been thinking about the last 10 spots in the event being filled out of a couple of "heat/sprint" races.

But with the fuel and economic concerns you could be on to some thing.

  10. Because of the endurance aspect of the sport any type of intermission would just make it a race for "softies", I don't want to see any changes that would take away from it's hard core competitivness. As far as the double file restarts, that's not an issue, as long as the race isn't segmented. I don't want to see NASCAR racing lose any of it's "extreme' as a motorsport.

  11. I personally like the double file restarts and the fact that they can work on the cars. I have to agree with Bill on the laps not counting under a caution, that would be sweet.

    I don't see NASCAR changing the way the races are run but it might not be a bad idea to throw one or two in during the season . I'd enjoy it! Awesome question Super Dave...Have a good evenin'. =o~}

  12. I think it should just be unique for the all-star race only and leave the rest of the races alone.

  13. Double file restarts I'm fine with....but leave everything else alone!

  14. No, I don't think like me the drivers would like it either.

while it was a quiet race, it was subdued...

the drivers want to let it all out.....driving conservative all the time, that just taint racing.

nope, leave it as it is.........

  15. I guess I'm odd man out. I like the weekly races pretty much the way they are. Yes, I am a change-resistant dinosaur. I think we love the All Star race, at least in part, because it's a different format.  If all races were run on the same format I'll bet it would get old quickly. Personally, I'd like to see one race at Daytona, and one at 'Dega, with only veterans(safety)and no restrictor plate. They were bustin' 215+ in the 90s, imagine what they could do now. Yeeeeeee Haaaaaa!

  16. I like the idea that teams are able to make the car more competitive and possibly fix terminal issues but Im a big fan of endurance and engine wear at tracks like Pocono and Atlanta.

the bad part is it would take two days to finish a race like the 600.  Last nights race would have been an hour but it was 2 1/2 hours.

    Later Dave

  17. Hello Dave-I for one don't see any con's to this way of racing

some cars as we know cause cautions to keep from being lapped- others overdrive, not especially their ability but the cars ability on old tires-and end up taking out a good safe driver- I love green flag racing and for the laps,(to not count

under caution's) would or should keep drivers from causing them intentional,,----In short I would love it.....

  18. Great Question!!!!!  Thanks!!!

I would LOVE it!  I feel like it's much much more exciting!  Competion would greater too!  I think we'd see more what the drivers are made of, emotions would be running high!  Great Question!  Dave, you should send Nascar a suggestion, maybe they could have more races like this, or have a whole new series!  Cool!
