What would be your top choice of animal to raise for it's food/ production value?

Question

If you were to say "Hmm, I'd like to start raising more of my own food" which animal would you be the most excited about raising?

Cows, chickens, rabbits, ducks, goats, sheep, pigs, etc?

And what are your reasons for your choice?

Personally, I'd like a mix of all of them, but if I had to choose I think I'd go with sheep or goats. :)

In most places they can feed them selves.  Just add water.

I'd go for chickens and raise enough to sell to my neighbors. I'd save their p**p in special tanks to process into methane gas which I could use for fuel energy for a suitably equipped car or to light and cool my home.

I would go for poultry. Besides them growing fast and multiplying quickly, they don't eat much and can scavenge for their food. Also get eggs which are protein.

Goats are so cool! They have those weird Satanic eyes and actually have really great personalities. And they love to eat weird things like cigarettes (filter and all) and (don't ask me how I know) they love to eat marijuana! And they are so darned tasty! Curry was made for goat!

Goats for me.  You get meat and dairy, but they're cheaper to keep 'cuz they'll eat anything and you don't have to keep shearing them like with sheep.  Get enough and you can rent out the flock for weed clearing!

Plus, for some unknown reason, goats just crack me up.

I've always dreamed of raising chickens for their eggs and sheep for their wool.  I've lived on a farm with chickens and it was great to have fresh eggs all the time.  I do alot of arts and crafts so I would love to be able to sheer the sheep and then spin the wool and make really expensive sweaters to sell to pay for all the land I'll need...thanks for the inspiring question.

Rabbits would be the best choice in my opinion. The reason why is because they are an excellent source of protien, and there manure is an excellent source of fertilizer as well compared to other animal manure. They can also multiply very quickly and it only takes about 10-12 weeks to raise a group of fryers (rabbits for the purpose of meat consumption. Rabbit manure also does not need any composting, so you can apply it to your garden right away. They also make virtually no noise.

Ok i live on a farm and the most fun i have ever had was raising a goat. Get a kid (baby goat) and you will fall in love with it! The next choice would be a cow, because calves are so cute!!!!

Chickens!!!!   I could get lots of them in one place. They reproduce rapidly. I could get eggs, chicken (duh), feathers for blankets and pillows to stay warm, and chicken livers to catch me some FISH!!! Also, their f***s can be used as fertilizer...Oh, and I could pet the ones I'm not going to eat (don't want to get too attached you know).
