Who would be on it? Oh..and an explanation of why you chose the players would be nice. I like to give BA to people who take the time to think things through too and have great reasons. I'd really like current players but I can't stop you from putting the greats down. Good luck & thanks. :]

  7. I'm gonna go old and new on you.

    1st base-  Lou Gherig

2nd base-  Jackie Robinson (helped revolutionize the game to what it is today)

SS-  Cal Ripken Jr. (for pure heart)  Ozzie Smith (for pure talent and love of the game)  Omar Vizquel (brilliant, 12 gold gloves)

3rd base-  George Brett (can you say pine tar incident)

Catcher-  Johnny Bench (greatest defensive catcher of all time)

Left Field-  Ted Williams (No explanation needed)

Center Field-  Willie Mays, but Ken Griffey Jr. is a close second.  I grew up in Seattle in the early 90's and was lucky enough to get to watch him grow up.  Without injury he would have been the best.

Right Field-  Babe Ruth (he's the Sultan of Swat, the Great Gambino)  Pete Rose (4000+ hits)

    Pitching

    Starting- Nolan Ryan (5000+ strikeouts)

    Closing-  Nolan Ryan

    Current

    1st base-  Kevin Youkilis

    2nd base-  Chase Utley

    SS-  Derek Jeter

3rd base-  Alex Rodriguez  (on his way to becoming the greatest player in history)

    Catcher-  Joe Mauer

    Left Field-  Alfonso Soriano

Center Field-  Ichiro, Grady Sizemore (I struck him out 7 times in high school, and I will 7 more times when I make it to the show)

Right Field-  Sammy Sosa (is he still alive?)

    Pitchers

Starter-  Tim Lincecum (I've seen what he can do first hand, I played on his summer team a couple years ago, unbelievable)

Closer-  Mariano Riviera ( I know he's getting older, but you can't mess with that split)

    I love baseball!

  9. Hey, heres my ultimate "current" baseball team

    GM: Brian Cashman

    Manager: Lou Piniella

    1. Hanley Ramirez - Shortstop (This guy is a great 5-tool player who has speed and power to be a great lead-off hitter)

    2. Ian Kinsler - 2nd Base (Hits for a great average and can even put up some power numbers...nice catalyst that any team would want.)

    3. Matt Holliday - RF (I know he isnt a Right Fielder but I think he could do it and I got someone else for Left Field...A great Power Hitter who is a .340 hitter!  Plus he's got a little speed.)

    4. Miguel Cabrera - 1B (Great Power hitter who hasnt even hit his prime yet...simply amazing star talent.)

    5. Ryan Braun - LF (Simply an AMAZING bat to have in your lineup...Has some speed and can hit the tar out of the ball.)

    6. Josh Hamilton - CF (He gets many RBI's and he is an amazing power hitter...He would drive in sooo many runs for the team.)

    7. David Wright - 3B (Great 3rd Basemen for any team who hits for power, average, and will even steal a lot of bases for you.)

    8. Russell Martin - C (Great leader who handles pitchers excellently...He can hit for average and will even put up the power numbers...One of the faster catchers in the league also.)

    9. Alfonso Soriano - DH (How could you not put this guy in the lineup? He is a great power hitter who specializes on getting on base. Will Strike out but his production off sets that and makes him a key asset to the team.)

Bench: Geovany Soto - C (Every team needs a backup catcher and he is one of the best around even in his rookie year)

Bench: Conor Jackson - 1B/LF (Nobody knows this guy but he hits for great average, has speed, and can hit for power...great addition to any team)

Bench: Jose Reyes - SS (How can this guy not be apart of your team? He is energetic and can really bring a charge to your ballclub.

Bench: Evan Longoria - 3B (Cant say enough about this guy, He is a youngster who wins wherever he is at)

Bench: Dustin Pedroia - 2B (Whoa, this guy has a big swing for a little man...and you know what? IT WORKS! great 2nd baseman and will get you a buncha hits)

    Starting Rotation:

    1. Tim Lincecum - One of the best pitchers in the league who is plain filthy and I believe is the best in the Majors)

    2. CC Sabathia - Great pitcher who has great stuff...also is a bullpen saver)

    3. Carlos Zambrano - He will shut you down because he is an amazing talent, with a fiery attitude that can bring energy to the team.

    4. Johan Santana - This guy is amazing, and he really performs in the clutch, would be a crime not to have him on your team

    5. Scott Kazmir - One great talent who will go far with his career.

    Bullpen:

MR: Rich Harden - Has filthy stuff just too cautious to put into starting rotation.

MR: Brandon Webb - Shut down guy who can win many games for you

MR: Manny Parra – Maybe the best unknown pitcher the league has to offer. Plus I need a southpaw (lefty) in my pen

MR: Josh Beckett - Has 2 World Series rings and you always need experience when building a Championship Team Not to mention his MVP and great stuff on the hill.

Setup Guy: Joba Chamberlain - haha I think everybody knows what this guy is capable of...blowing you away with a 98-100 mph fastball then just kill you with a nasty slider.

Closer: Fransisco Rodriguez - Yes he is the best closer no doubt...Great guy to have to close down games.

Honorable Mention (Players that were oh so close to making it:

    Troy Tulowitzki

    Derrek Lee

    Ben Sheets

    Chase Utley

    Pat Burrel

    Aramis Ramirez

That was my roster...gave me something to do for the last 40 minutes....Thanks and I hoped this is what you were looking for :)

  10. I don't know if you can beat Winston's answer, but I'll try anyway, using only current players.

C-Russel Martin: Great young hitter that's good on defense and is maybe the best hitting catcher in the league.

1B-Albert Pujols: C'mon, do I really have to say why?  Easily one of the greatest hitters in the game.

2B-Ian Kinsler: Scores a ton of runs and hits for a high average.  That's right, I'm taking Kinsler over Utley.  Surprising, huh?

3B-Alex Rodgriguez: Maybe the best homerun hitter in the game today, and likely to break the homerun record someday.

RF-Josh Hamilton: He does almost everything. He drivers runners in, hits homers, plays decent defense, gotta be the best all around player in the AL.

CF-Ichiro: One of the best contact hitters of all time, and an amazing defensive player.

LF-Ryan Braun: An incredibly powerful hitter who plays great defense and drives in a ton of runs, maybe one of the best homerun hitters of all time by the end of his career.

DH-David Ortiz: He's got amazing power and isn't a bad contact hitter; truly one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball

1st Pitcher-Roy Halladay: A very smart pitcher who can do just about everything you ask of him, great at most things.

2nd Pitcher-CC Sabathia: Amazing stuff, one of the best strikeout and control pitchers in the league.

3rd Pitcher-Josh Beckett: A true ace, he's great at mixing up pitches and overpowering hitters.

4th Pitcher-Ben Sheets: He's got the best curveball in baseball, and he consistently strikes out 8-10 batters.

5th Pitcher-Carlos Zambrano: He's an aggressive, emotional pitcher, and can overpower even the best hitters.

I'm not gonna bother with the bullpen, just the closer.

Closer: Eric Gagne.  Nope, just kidding, Francisco Rodriquez.  He may get more save opportunities than most closers, but he's still the best right now.  He's got incredible stuff, and can out pitch almost anyone else in the 9th.

    Hope that was okay.
