Question:

What would bring maggots into my house?

I found one maggot on my dining room table. I was soooooo disgusted and now I am determined to find out where this came from and WHY?

- my husband has been collecting compost when we cook instead of throwing it out, he puts it in a bag until he takes it outside to the garden.

- we have a dog, but he's clean and we've never had problems before.

- we have a 7 month old baby. Diapers are locked in a diaper pail then taken out immediately to the curb.

Anything would help!

  1. Things You’ll Need:

    Pesticide

    Boiling Water

    Broom and Dust Pan

    Trash Bag

    Broom and Dust Pan

    Plastic Bag with a Seal

The Quickest Way to Get Rid of Maggots

    ******************************

    Step1

Kill all the flies with a common pesticide. While bug sprays have no effect on maggots (they actually seem to like it), they can effectively kill the parents so you can put an end to the procreation of future maggots.

    Step2

Pour boiling water over all the maggots. This is one of the most efficient ways to kill these critters.

    Step3

Sweep up the dead maggots and dispose of them in a sealed trash bag.

    The Less Painful Method

    ****************************

    Step1

Sweep the live maggots into one pile.

    Step2

Scoop the maggots into a plastic bag with a seal and place them in the freezer. The extreme cold will make them drowsy and they'll eventually fall asleep permanently.

    Step3

Dispose of the plastic bag in an outdoor receptacle.

Some methods recommend using carburetor cleaner or a mixture of Pine Sol, bleach and boiling water as an alternative. However, these substances aren't any more effective than regular boiling water. Dead is dead. Plus, you'll have less mess to deal with when you use plain boiling water.

Keep your trash covered to avoid infiltration by flies. Use a garbage disposal if you have one. The presence of rotting foods only rings the dinner bell for flies.

  2. Oh wow, that's awful, I am thinking a cat can climb up on the table but you didn't say you had a cat. Is there any air vents above the table? Maybe one blew in from the attic? This is perplexing, GOOD LUCK

  3. It's probably just a stray fly that got into your house through an open door.  It's not like you have an infestation.  Just kill the maggot, and sanitize the area where it was.  If you start finding them all over, or even a lot of them in one place, that's when you worry.

  4. Check for dead mice in your ceiling, That will do it
