The car runs and drives, but makes that noise. Someone said it was a blown head gasket another said it was burned exhaust valves. This is a car that I might buy, but can't unless I find out whats causing that problem. To me it sounds like a vacuum/air problem but im not a mechanic so help please!

  1. Has it had a recent tune up?  It might be the spark plugs.

  2. Uh, it is a GEO METRO!!  I would not buy that car on a bet.  What part of it is 18, almost 19 years old and a domestic does not make sense to you?  If you need to get somewhere reliably buy a skateboard!

  3. The Geo Metro is a great little car that's built with high amazing high quality.  To those answered "it will last a week" or "it's a skateboard."  Well it's a '91.  That's 1991.  It's been running for 17 years -- a little more than "a week."

That being the case you should do a compression test and other tests on it and find out what's making the noise.  OK, you're not a mechanic.  Here's a suggestion:  Take it to a mechanic.

Even major engine problems can be fixed in the metro, sometimes for surprisingly little cost.  But you should know what you are dealing with.

  4. ok words like ting ping bank clank etc can be a lot of things.

really need to see and hear the car to find out what it is

first place i would go is a exhaust shop like tuffy or something they will do a free inspection and may find the problem if they can fix it there yea

if not they may be able to tell you what it is so you can get a idea on what it will cost to repair

but by doing this you will save some cash because the mechanic will have a good idea as to where to look(ie less labor)

the good news is that metros are very easy to work on this saves time and thereby saves you money

    goodluck

  5. i ve had experience with this car.  its was a bit newer like 96 but let me tell you.  look elsewhere.  this car doesnt make a putt putt noise and i still feel like it might disassemble at any given time. lol.. go with an older civic or something more reliable. trust me on this one.

  6. holes in the exhaust system

  7. probably because it is a geo and wont last more than a week

  8. Don't buy it. It wouldn't be worth fixing it. It's too old, and it's a geo!
