What would cause a Mental Kryptonite?

I met a Person the other day, a daughter of one of my coworkers. She is my age. I'm by no means psychic or 100% accurate, but I can usually read body language and understand subconscious meaning in sentences and statements quite well. But with this girl I could not. What would cause a block like this? I would like to understand why my mind is clouded when I try to find and interpret signals.

Maybe she didn't really even know what she meant when she said what it was that she said.

And then there are those people who are really good at disguising their feelings.

And then there are those people who are just socially awkward(like me)  who don't really play by the usual rules.
