basement floor drain and basement shower drain.

shower drain appears to be draining properly, but found some dirt by the drain (we hardly use this shower) and found our carpet wet around the basement floor drain.

  1. Do you have a sump / sewage ejection pump? Might be the problem. Otherwise, it's the mainline, call a service plumber.

  2. I had a similar problem, and it ended up being my sewer line.

Since your carpet was wet, your sewer may be draining slowly or backing up into your basement.

Some plumbing companies have cameras they can use to check out your lines for you. You might want to check into it before it becomes a bigger problem.

At the very least, call a plumber to discuss the issue.

  3. Septic or Sewer

Usually drains will be affected on the lowest floor when you have sewer/septic issues.

  4. Most likely your main sewer line is clogged with roots. You can call a a company like Roto-Rooter and they will clean out your main line. Call around though, because prices vary.

You can also rent a large sewer snake and do it yourself but be wary, before I had experience using one of these machines, I got caught in it and dislocated my thumb.
