What would cause a head twitch/shaking in a kitten?

I have a stray cat that I started to feed in my barn to help keep mice away (I live on acreage in a rural area and there are many field mice.) She had six kittens about 4 weeks ago. They all look clean and healthy but one of them started having a head twitch almost as soon as it was able to get up and around. It is a very bad twitch, his head shakes back and forth uncontrollably whenever he tries to walk. He is able to walk, eat, play, scratch his ears. I think it must be something neurological but I just don't know what it is or if there is any hope for him.

  1. The kitten might have ear mites. Or something wrong with its ears. If you can take her to the vet.

  2. Sometimes this is due to inner ear problems, it puts them off balance.

Best thing to do is take it to the vet and get an expert opinion.

Good luck, hope it is ok

  3. Yes it sounds like a neurological problem with the kittens system.

then again a cat does shake it's head when they have ear mites.  (just not all the time)

It may grow out of it...if neurolical.. if mites then you might want to check it's ears and get meds for it.

If it is not bothering it when it walks, eats, play then don't worry.

  4. Do you have a vet? Has he been given shots for mites and things?

  5. sounds like ears mites to me, take him to a vet or get some Revolution to put on him to get rid of them.
