What would cause my A/C Intake (in my house) to smell like when you turn the heater on for the first time...?

Like burnt dust on the coils... but we have no heater running just the A/C and the smell is pretty strong. Is it dangerous to leave it running tonight until we can get a repairman to check it tomorrow? Awful hot here to just turn it off for the night. It is cooling just fine... it is just that smell coming from the intake that bothers me.

  1. Sounds like your evap coil is dirty, burning the dust off the heaters takes 2 minutes and it is over, If your heat and A/C where on at the same time the A/C would not shut off at all and your electric bill would be very high, some people smell mold off the coil and think it is burning.

  2. Dust builts up on the elements

  3. the only thing that could be burning is the supply fan, take a look at it.if there is nothing wrong, smell was in house already.

  4. sound like you have a heat strip coming on then going off bad sequencer
