A/C contractor came to do an annual service call and inspection today. Said he found mold and had to take something out of air handler and clean it. Later in day air handler made a loud vibrating or shaking noise and now fan won't work. I'm in Florida and it's hot.

  1. Probably the fan motor or squirrel cage which surrounds the motor. Sounds like it is out of balance. If it was working quietly before the tech showed up than he probably left something loose as he cleaned your coils for mold. That sounds suspicious as it is. If I was you I would call another tech and get a 2nd opinion. They are usually free for 2nd opinions. If he finds the problem which is what I stated then you need to take care of the 1st co. that came out to [fix] your unit. Good luck.

  2. Had a similar problem after 'service'. The automatic cutout kept kicking in after the shaking and the compressor then had to be replaced.

  3. Sounds like the blower wheel is out of balance, motor not mounted correctly, wheel not secure on shaft,or the motor bearings have frozen up.Give them a call tomorrow morning and let them know that someone was out there for preventative maintenance and it was working fine before.

Turn the power off, take the cover off,and have a peak at it if you want to.You might be able to fix it yourself.

Don't allow your condenser to run if the blower is not working or you will damage your compressor.Cut the 240 amp breaker off at your outdoor unit.VERY IMPORTANT!
