Question:

What would cause my Kenmore dryer not to run?

I know it is not the belt because that looks fine, One problem it had was every time I shut the door it would spin with no heat. Now the lights come on, but no spin, I am thinking I need a new operating thermal fuse ? Could it be a faulty door switch? I do not think the motor is blown.

  1. You're close, you gave us the make, but not the heat source.  Either type of dryer could have a problem with a door switch.  The only way to test that for sure, is to pop the top and disconnect the leads to the switch, with the dryer unplugged.  If there are only two leads, then you can check it by connecting the two leads together and trying the start switch, after plugging it back in.  If it works then it was the switch.  If not, then the most likely culprit is a thermal fuse in the rear of the unit, under the back plate.  It's a small, white, either oblong or football oval shaped item with two small spade terminals sticking up, hopefully, with wire leads attached.  Continuity means good, no continuity means no good.

  2. Sounds like you might have more than one problem.  Door switch could definitely be one of them.  Take a look here for some help:  http://www.repairclinic.com/0088_8_1.asp

  3. It sounds like you may have a bad door safety switch. Good luck

  4. check the fuse sometimes there are 2 one for the heat the other to spin
