Question:

What would cause my TV's digital optical audio output to stop working?

I have a brand new Sharp Aquos HDTV...I've been running the sound through my receiver, via the digital optical output on the TV. It was working fine (for about a week) up until a few days ago. I was watching TV one day and changed the channel. The sound went off. I tried to get it back on but I couldn't. So I had to turn the TV's volume up. The next day, when I turned it on again, I got sound through the receiver. And then, once again I changed the channel and it went off. And now it won't go on at all.

Anyone know what the h**l could have happened? It's not the receiver because I tried two different optical inputs and neither work (I know one of them works because I normally have it hooked up to my DVD player and that works fine still). So I have no idea what is going on or what it could be.

  1. The good news is that your TV is still under warranty.

Can you get sound from  the speakers?

When you switch channels, is this an to analog channel or a digital channel?

It is quite possible that you can't get digital audio from an analog channel - but check the manual to be sure.

Did you try a different cable?
