Whenever I try to play games or watch movies on the computer it will run for maybe 10 minutes and then shut off just like you pulled the plug. Any ideas? I can't run Scandisk or cleanup it shuts off every time.

  1. I have a computer like that too before. Does it just freeze up than shut down? Make sure you have HWMonitor. You will need cooling oil change for you processor about 3 years. Go to BIOS and see if you set your computer to shut down and 40-60. If it doesn't work than its might be a problem with the motherboard, processor, RAM, Graphic card, chipset etc, Windows or Mac ox ....... to not work in order or error. If you know alot about computer than you can change the parts.

    Hope it helps

  2. This sounds like an overheating problem. If your fans aren't working correctly, your comp will heat up and as a safety precaution, the comp will shut down.

Another problem might be that you have a hardware issue. Something in your comp is failing and may need to be replaced. You can always tell if you get the BSOD (Blue screen of death) before it shuts down.

  3. Your symptoms point to a heat buildup problem. This is caused by

    1) blocked intake vents

    2) fans clogged with dust

    3) broken fans (they don't turn at all)

Make sure that the computer is not in an enclosed space.

Turn it off, unplug it and open it up. Vacuum any dust you find. Canned air works well also.

Plug it back in (keep the cover off) look at the fans. Are they all turning quietly? If any don't turn, turn slowly or make a lot of noise, replace them. (You can buy replacement fans very cheaply on eBay).

    Good luck

  4. Your computer is overheating. It would shut off doing anything intensive such as playing videos and even running a virus scan. You can try blowing out the dust with compressed air. If that doesn't work the fan or heatsink might need replacing. If it's a laptop, you're much better off getting a new one. Laptop repairs are pricey.

  5. I'm having the same problem with my laptop, I called the maker of my computer and some shops that repair laptops and computers they told me to reboot it. I did and that did not help, then they told me that it could possibly be my fan. The inside of my laptop may have way to much dust inside slowing down the computer, and to watch and play games on line that heats up your computer more because of the power it takes to do that. So that might be the problem with yours. Run virus scans on it to make sure you don't have a virus. Good luck
