What would cause someone to smell gas while driving even days after filling up? ?

  1. you have a fuel leak somewheres, you would be smart to take it to your mechanic, and get it checked


  2. I would have to say they dont shower or change their clothes like most people do.

  3. These cars have a "vapor recovery system" where a small vacuum is drawn from the gas tank, through a charcoal filter box, and eventually into the carburetor where the gas vapors are burned, thereby "saving gas".

    '89 Caddy & save gas = oxymoron  :-D

    Look for this filter to be defective, and/or broken vacuum tubing. This filter is a black box located below the battery behind the right side headlights, way down deep where you can't really get to.

    That is where I would look first, 18 years old and probably never changed out. This is not your normal maintained item on the car.
