Question:

What would cause the black rubber door gaskets of dishwashers to break down, leaving black residue everywhere?

After about 3 years, the gaskets of my Asko dishwasher get gummy, resulting in the deposit of black gunk particularly on plastics, even plastic parts of the dishwasher. Changing the detergents does not seem to make any difference. I had the same problem with similar black gaskets on a Bosch dishwasher! Has anyone else experienced this problem?

  1. The temp of water as well as chlorine in water. However, the seal around the door should definitely not be doing this. You might call the mfg. and find out if they have had similar complaints about this problem before you pay someone to replace it.

  2. Gaskets wear out.  Google the manufacturer or find gaskets available in your area.

    Always keep instructions and manuals.

  3. Call a repairman to get the gasket replaced. Don't use it until you get it fixed. Your dishes are getting dirty, not clean. The black stuff is bad for you.
