My daughter got new glasses today and when she put them on the words she read on books, computer were smaller than they actually were. Plus things look like they are slanting any one else have this problem. When we told the receptionist that they were like everything was slanting she said she needs to get use to them. The eye doctor was not there when we picked them up. I am concerned about the letters being smaller than they actually are please help

  1. If a patient is nearsighted (has problems seeing in the distance), she will need concave lenses for correction.  These lenses will minify images when in glasses.  If you look at your daugher's face, it may look like her face behind her glasses is smaller than the rest of her face.  The stronger the prescription, the greater this effect.  If her prescription has negative numbers (like -1.00 or -2.75), she is nearsighted.

The slanting may be caused by a correction for astigmatism.  This will take a little time to get used to, but children adapt very quickly.  If her prescription has more than one number for each eye (like -1.00-0.50x090 or -2.75-1.25x135), she has astigmatism correction.   If she is still reporting problems after a few days to a week, though, you may want to see the doctor again.

    Good luck.

  2. This is very common, especially with higher-powered magnifications. She will indeed have to get used to it, or get contact lenses.

  3. Well, the slanting isnt a problem, her eyes will eventually adjust to that, as for the size problem, any variety of things could cause that. Try to get an appointment with that eye doctor just to be on the safe side.

  4. Every body has to get used to glasses. After a while people don't notice the tension and strain in their neck, face, and shoulders, because they have clarity. They don't even notice the reduction in the range of motion in their neck. If they are young enough they don't even notice their 3d vision becoming flat and two dimensional. The childs tight face and increasingly introverted behavior are just assumed to be part of the childs personality. Astigmatism makes things even more stressfull. People with astigmatism glasses cannot tilt their head from side to side, this changes their prescription. Glasses do change the size of what we see, but that is one of the easier things for our brain to adapt to.
