My son has a fever - 103. He is 9 years old Nothing hurts. He isn't coughing, sneezing, aching. No cold or flu symptoms whatsoever. His teeth aren't bothering him. He is eating fine. Could this be due to a growth spurt? This is something he does often and it only lasts 24 hours. I can remember this happening at least the past 3 years at the exact same time of year. It's odd. He isn't whining, crying, anything. He just lays on the couch (which he never does. He even stands to play PS2) and says he is tired. My only guess is it's because he is growing. Any thoughts?

  1. maybe hes having an alergic reaction to something that comes up around this time of the year maybe a certain flower or something?

  2. FORGET HOME REMEDIES AND GET THE BOY INTO A DOCTOR'S OFFICE.

  3. A fever is defined as a temperature 1° or more above the normal 98.6°. Minor infections may cause mild or short-term temperature elevations. Temperatures of 103° and above are considered high and can signal a potentially dangerous infection. Contact your doctor in case of a high fever or if a lower fever doesn't resolve with simple treatments.

  4. not to worry you or anything but possibly infection..because when the body heats up it usually tries to fight off infections. but...im not a doctor...so don't listen to me

  5. Take him to the doctor, please. This is not normal, and could be indicative of an underlying chronic condition. Just have him checked out, to be on the safe side.

  6. hes lying to u thats y hes laying his ps2 and ur son doesnt have a fever its just that the light from the tv is hitting his face wich makes him hot. ur son is a good lyer

  7. tm-ar&k,

This is a good question to ask of your pediatritian. A kid his age can take a high fever better than an adult. But I can't seem to understand why he'd have a 103 fever and not feel at all ill in some way. He may have a low grade infection of some kind or an ear infection of the same caliber.

Here's a site that has some good info:

    Hope he feels better....

  8. hhhmmmmm its hard to say, can you feel any swollen nodes in his neck?  103 is a little high so make sure it does not go up at all,

he may have a mild infection of some sort and his body is fighting it, a fever means the body is working to fight something off.

  9. try webmd... but when you type in symptoms it does give you every possible answer that contains those symptoms so make sure you are as accurate as possible

  10. 103 is a really high fever, and should be seen to.  Fevers can be related to teething, but since he's 9 it wouldn't be that.  More often than not, fevers are a sign of infection.  the body is trying to get rid of something that shouldn't be there, or it could be mistaken something.

It should not be caused by a growth spurt.  He maybe having a reaction, or allergy to something ingested or in the environment.

A 103 fever, I would take him to emerg.  It's nothing to fool with.

  11. he put the theometer under heat? he MAY be lying though.

  12. Call a doctor.  Seriously, don't mess around with fevers.

  13. growth does not cause fever.

it can be from any number of different kinds of infections.  doctors especially want to see kids for fevers with no other symptoms (if they have sniffles and a cough it's probably a virus, for example, but if they have no obvious symptoms it's harder to tell what's causing it and they should be seen by a doctor).  utis or other hard-to-diagnose-yourself problems can cause a fever with no apparent other symptoms.  definitely get him seen, especially if it happens often.

  14. why not just take him to the doctor and get him checked
