What would eventually happen if you were to stay awake as much as possible for a month or longer (up to a year or more)?

Thanks

  1. Everyone needs sleep to live. No one could live if they stayed awake that long. You would have no energy, be sleepy all the time, and would hallucinate. Eventually you would go to sleep.

  2. You would either die from lack of sleep or your body would make you sleep.

  3. record is someat like 16 days.......

  4. It's not possible

  5. They've done experiments on this (google it under sleep deprivation experiments') but a lot of the participants dropped out because they were slipping into what's called 'micro-sleeps' where you fall asleep for just a second or two.

Ultimately that prevented them from getting any REM sleep (as it takes longer) and it caused intense irritability, anxiety and mood swings, etc...

google it, it's quite interesting! I don't think you'd die (not for a long time) but I'm not sure the person would stay sane.

  6. After just so long your body starts to lose control. You will see hallucinations and also spots and swirls and such. There is no way for your body to stay awake for as long as you say. It will eventually shut down the motor and you will fall asleep no matter what you do.

  7. you would eventually fall asleep. full stop. lol

  8. you wouldnt be able to but if you somehow how managed it you would die from exhaustion (sorry spelt wrong)

  9. Apparently if you deprive yourself of sleep for long enough (say a month for arguments sake) then you would go insane. This guy did it as a world record atempt and was a completely different person for doing it.

Sleep is a form of torture so it aint good for you. It would be impossible to stay awake for a year. You'd fall asleep at some point but you'd probs go mad or maybe even die.

Actually can you die from it? lol

  10. I don't think it's possible to stay wide awake for more than a few days. Your body will begin to take "short naps." Nevertheless, studies have shown sleep deprivation can cause a  person to start exhibiting some behaviors, etc. similar to those experienced by persons with a thought disorder (psychoses). Visual hallucinations and behavioral reactions to them occur.
