OK I just got a 9 week old female kitten.I know she will go into heat when she's an adult cat BUT Would she damage anything in my house is I didn't get her spayed? Do female cats spray? Bleed like a normal period? I have ONLY had Male cats and had them neutered because they spray. Please help me out here.I have no idea.I got the cost of spaying and declawing and it's $550.00!!! So Im really wanting to cut that cost! I dont want to cut corners and have it done somewhere else that the vet wouldnt take proper care of her! So just wondering what what would happen if I didn't have her spayed??? Thank you so much!!! :)

  1. Your IQ would drop 100 points.  It's people like this that cause the big issue of overpopulation of cats and the murder of millions of animals a year.  And getting a cat declawed is just a poor excuse for someone who doesn't know how to properly manage animal behavior.

Should have thought about it prior to adopting this poor animal.

  2. You want to cut down on costs?  Don't get your poor baby declawed.

  3. Well you may get lucky and you may not? I have to females that sprayed things just like a male does and one that doesn't and she is over two years old. If you want to cut corners do any online search just type in the words. "low cost spay and neuter" and find one in your area. Where I live I get mine fixed for $25 for both male and female cats. Next the nail issue I'm totally against declawing cats after I heard what they do, which is snip the tip of the toe off which in human terms is like removing the tips of all your fingers. Here is a link to the subject: http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/declaw...  Your much better off learning how to cut the nails yourself saving you the cost of surgery.

  4. FIRST OF ALL, WHERE DO YOU LIVE THAT IT COSTS $550?  YES YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE HER SPAYED--THEY DO SPRAY AND I DID HAVE ONE CAT THAT WOULD BLEED WHEN SHE SPRAYED.  BUT THEY DEFINITELY DON'T BLEED LIKE A HUMAN PERIOD.  BUT MOST LIKELY YOU WILL FIND YOUR CARPET RUINED.  HOW ABOUT JUST HAVING HER SPAYED FOR NOW AND LATE THINKING ABOUT HAVING HER DECLAWED.  DO YOU HAVE A HUMANE SOCIETY  WHERE YOU LIVE?  CHECK THERE FOR POSSIBLE ASSISTANCE.

  5. dapunkin2001 is absolutely right.  You really don't want to deal with a cat in heat.

Just wanna add something: there are places that will spay your kitty for free, so definitely call around and save that $550 for your own use.  Declawing is very cruel.  If she does scratch you can get her those nail caps that work just as well.

  6. If you don't spay her, she'll go into heat and bleed, and if she goes out and gets busy with another cat, you'll have to worry about her popping out babies.

You don't have to get her declawed.  Even if yyou get her spayed, she'll still spray.  That's a territorial thing, not a babies thing.

  7. She could get pregnant at 5 months old.

  8. Spaying doesn't cost money.  All you have to do is volunteer for an afternoon at the Humane Society.  Actually, the Animal Rescue Coalition doesn't ever require that.  They took care of my kitten completely free and they did a better job than the Human Society.

I would never consider not spaying or neutering a kitten unless it was going to be used for breeding purposes.  Yes, female cats do spray (don't listen to those who say they don't.  Not being spayed makes them more territorial).  Your house will be more likely to stink of cat urine.

Personally, I think declawing is a very very very cruel thing to do.  I built my kitten a huge climbing post and taught him not to claw the furniture.  You could actually cut the cat's claws every now and then, but I didn't even bother with that much.  Don't declaw the kitten, that's just way wrong.

  9. there would be little spots of blood about when shes in heat and she might become aggressive.

why dont u just have her spayed. dont declaw her thats just cruel.

citrus smells stop them scratchin furniture

  10. They do spray & it stinks. They always meow alot

  11. Who the heck quoted you that for a spay and declaw..never heard of such an inflated rate.  Call a different pet hospital, or call you local humane society.  I am SURE you have low cost spay/neuter clinics in your area..everyone does.  You can skip the declaw if you want to save money, and use training instead...it is free.  Invest in a good cat scratcher and a water squirter instead.  You really need to spay your cat...if you are worried about money, how will you afford vaccinating and neutering all the kittens she might have, and if she ends up getting uterine cancer or pyometra..these will be much more expensive to treat than a basic spay.  Do some research and I bet you will find something much more affordable.

  12. OKAY, MY ANSWER IS IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I WANT TO GET MY POINT ACROSS LOUD AND CLEAR.

YOU CUT THE COST BY FORGETTING ABOUT DECLAWING! iT`S EXTREMELY CRUEL AND PAINFUL. NOT TO MENTION VERY UN-NATURAL.

IF CLAWING IS A PROBLEM, YOU GO OUT AND BUY A ROLL OF CLEAR CONTACT PAPER AND ATTACH IT TO WHERE THE CAT SCRATCHES, STICKY SIDE OUT. SOON ENOUGH, IT WILL STOP, CATS HATE FOR THEIR FUR TO STICK TO ANYTHING.

MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THEM SOMETHING THEY CAN SCRATCH, BECAUSE THEY NEED IT FOR EXERCISE AND REMOVAL OF THEIR OUTER LAYER OF NAIL, WHICH IS EVERY TWO MONTHS.

GET YOUR CAT FIXED AT 4 MONTHS. PERIOD. YES, THEY DO HAVE PERIODS, AND HOWL, AND TRY LIKE h**l TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE, YOU`LL HAVE EVERY UNFIXED MALE IN A FIVE MILE RADIUS BEATING DOWN YOUR DOOR AND KEEPING YOU UP ALL NIGHT.

NOT TO MENTION THE THOUSANDS OF KITTENS AND CATS KILLED EVERY SINGLE DAY IN THIS COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY ARE UNWANTED AND UNLOVED. A VERY LARGE AND SO VERY SAD SITUATION.

    PLEASE DON`T CONTRIBUTE!

  13. You don't want to go through having a cat in heat. They yowl at all hours of the night and stick their butt up in the air and they keep going into heat until they mate. You are better to go ahead and have her spayed. Call around to different vets and compare prices. $550 is awfully high!!

Please, do NOT have her declawed. It is very painful and unnecessary. If you are worried about her scratching furniture, get double sided tape and put it on the corners of the couch and chairs.

  14. Female cats don't spray, but they can reach maturity at an early age, around 6 months or so, and drive you insane with their yowling and wanting to get out and mate. They do bleed, but its slight. That is way too much to spend on spaying and declawing. My vet charged $50.00 for a spaying. I don't declaw mine. I would call around and find a more reasonable vet. Ask friends, neighbors, family to recommend a good one who won't take you to the cleaners.

  15. That is way too much money for spaying and declawing, especially if it's done at once.

I think declawing can be inhumane but you definitely need to get the spaying done.

  16. she'll start bleeding after awile i think but well if u think if she gets outside u may get 6 cats instead of 1 so yeah and u dont need to get them declawed all u have to do is get her spayed and maybe later u can get her declawed!! we have a 2 yr old kitten and she isnt declawed! once we found a stray and took her in after about 5 months then she was a 1 or so and we brought her to get declawed next day got a call the doc. said she didnt make threw the anistesha so now shes gone its been about 4 yrs since she died so now my mom is afraid to get any of our cats our declawed unless there declawed when we get them so i would wait and just spay her and that way when she really starts tearing ur stuff a part u can declaw her than!!! or gets really bad u can good luck!!!!!!!!

  17. A cat in heat will exhibit very erratic behavior.  She'll be all over you demanding attention one minute, then bite your hand when you try to pet her.  They also call for a mate, meowing loudly all day and night.  Finally, spaying your kitten, especially before the first heat cycle (usually around 6 months I think)  has many health benefits. It will reduce or even eliminate the risk of certain types of cancer and infections.  Please talk to your vet about the benefits, and have her spayed at the earliest opportunity.  You'll both be happier for it.
