  1. It depends on the status of the company as a whole. They may be offered a transfer to another location or they may just be laid off.

  2. Depends on a lot of factors...If bankrupt--the company might be forced to release workers without compensation beyond hours worked. If the company was bought out--there may be compensation packages (severance pay) and employees might be hired on to work with the new company. Petco would definitely prosper :P

  3. Usually when a big company shuts down, its because of money issues... So the employees would definitly lose their jobs, and most likely not got any type of severance package.

EDIT: I thought you meant the company as a whole, my bad. Yeah I'm sure they would offer a transfer if it was just one location. Thats about all they could offer, I'd imagine.

  4. They would be fired if there was no other position for them, and they would be paid for any work they had done. It may take a while to get it out of the company/ owner though. I heard of a handful of Wendy's were shut down because of the owner's tax issues, and it took months to sort through everything and pay the workers for their last hours. I am not sure if PetSmart is a franchise, if the individual store is owned by the company and money wasn't the reason it was shut down the checks may come faster. They still may drag their feet a bit, but the money should be coming. Keep in touch with people you worked with so that you can have nmbers behind you if you have to fight for it, they have to pay you for your work.

  5. I'm sure that it would depend on the employee's employment status.  Salaried employees and fulltime employees would likely be offered a transfer, or a severence package.  Parttime would likely be laid off.  They would all be paid any wages due for hours already worked of course.

  6. Why would they get payed if they didn't have a job???

If it was temporary shutdown, it would be at the discretion of the employer.  Probably not!
