What would happen if all the atoms in the universe split apart at the same time?

If all the atoms, including the atoms that make up humans animals plants material objects etc etc... If all these atoms that make up this intire universe were to split apart what would be the outcome?

  3. It would certainly be a bad day for us.  After that, it wouldn't matter much to any of us.

    This might happen, if Dark Energy causes the Universe to end in a Big Rip.  If this does happen, it won't be for billions or trillions of years.  It's by no means been proven - we don't know much about Dark Energy as yet.

  4. well, it wouldnt make any difference because we wouldnt be around to see the consequences.

    but its not possible. ignoring the obvious fact that its impossible to just split apart ever atom, theres a larger problem. the vast majority of atoms in the universe are a) hydrogen, which cant be split apart in the conventional way of splitting an atom. and b) helium, which would require extra mass to split apart. so you would have to conjure up mass, which isnt too likely.
