What would happen if someone did not have a thalamus?

Thalamus in the brain the one in charge of motor and sensory control.

Coma -- the thalamus controls sleep / wake cycles.

Sensory isolation -- there would be almost no sensory processing.

It's hard to imagine lack of a thalamus being compatible with life, at least independent of life support.  Certainly not up walking and talking.
