What would happen if someone put e85 in a non-e85 vehicle?

My mom did this. She has turbo, and had 1/4 tank when she filled it with E85. The dealer wanted to drain it but she wants to take her chances.

What's going to happen?

  1. Ethanol can break down the seals, hoses, lines and gaskets in cars that are not designed to use E85.

If your mom keeps doing it, expect a VERY EXPENSIVE repair bill in the very near future.

Flex-Fuel vehicles can use E85 because they are built with special seals, hoses and gaskets to handle E85.  ONLY USE E85 IF YOU HAVE A FLEX-FUEL VEHICLE.

Regular cars can only tolerate up to 15% Ethanol in gasoline.

  2. Yeah, mix with regular gas when you can.  It probably won't ruin the engine right away, but over time it would not be good.  Engines have to be specially configured to run E85 (basically alcohol).

  3. e85 is 85% ethanol and 15% Petrol blend. To use it in the non e85 car requires modifications in the carburation system.

Using e85 in a non e85 car will result in severe loss of power, which could be dangerous in the highway and while tackling sudden gradients. The turbo will also not work to its maximum performance with e85.

Request your mum to drain out the e85 and fill with regular gas

  4. drive easy to gas station and fill with premium....and don't worry...a few tanks of gas will flush e 85...the e85 may even have cleaned your injectors...but avoid it if u can
