  1. I don't think it's possible, but if the Earth were to suddenly reverse its rotation, the sun would rise in the west and set in the east, and it might mess with Earth's magnetic field, since the magnetic field is created by the rotation of Earth's core, and if that reversed, it might do some weird things to the field.  But ice age?  Probably not. . .that doesn't have much to do with the rotation of the Earth.

  2. Nothings going to happen in 2012 if your referring to the Mayan calender its not ending completely its just going to start a new cycle just like ours does when the year ends, it just starts a new year.

  3. If instantly reversed, the effects would be different depending on where you are on the planet.  Hence, if you were on the North or South Poles, nothing.  If you were on the equator, you would most likely be killed because there the earth spins at over 1000 mph, so you could imagine what it would it would be like to be standing next to a brick wall at a sudden stop.

That's almost impossible for this to happen, I don't care about any magnetic spectrums, physics are physics.  The only way to change physics is if an asteroid almost the size of our moon hit us at exactly 23 degrees at the opposite angle.  You can imagine the possibilities of this actually occurring.

  4. There would be massive world wide destruction, thousand mile an hour winds and it would take thousands of years to recover from such a catastrophe.

I forgot to mention the giant tsunamis that would shave the surface of the earth.

  5. That wont happen bud.Tell your cousin to get back to the normal world rather than some dream land.

  6. Its just not possible. Make up a good one and tell your cousin about 2010 when the sky turns inside-out!

  7. We would all be thrown 100 miles away from where we are now. It would be like a THUNDEROUS car crash because the Earth is travelling so fast.

    PS 2012 is total bollucks.

  8. One of the most obvious results of a reversal in the Earth’s rotation is that the Sun would rise in the west and set in the east.

A lot of weather changes would occur. The earth's rotation plays a major part large-scale circulation of the atmosphere. This will probably reverse the effects of El Nini and La nina on a global scale. Our seasons will also probably change.

But meh, as if that's going to happen.

  9. im no expert so this is just a guess. i do know that the movement of the earth causes the core to spin, and causes our electromagnetic field. so imagine stirring a pot. you stir one way until you get that whirlpool effect. you suddenly start stirring the other way and everything in the pot sloshes around haphazardly and then eventually starts to get back on track. seeing as the core is millions of billions of times bigger than a pot, it would take a lot of energy to get it started spinning again, reverse or normal. so its gonna essentially sit still until the earth is spinning fast enough to start it up again. so... no spinning earth, no spinning core, no electromagnetic field, lots and lots of solar radiation. the earth would literally cook from the outside in until the core generated enough energy for an electromagnetic field. in which case we would all be dead by then. so contrary to the first response, instead of an ice age, the earth would roast. and if everything is obliterated, nothing is going to absorb the sunlight from the greenhouse effect once the EM field starts up again, essentially multiplying the effect of greenhousing thus turning the earth into a pseudo-desert planet

    that about covers it :P
