  1. Are you thinking about the thermohaline circulation? That is the major current that flows throughout all the oceans and is driven by differences in ocean salinity. See the link below. There is a theory that if large amounts of northern sea ice melt very quickly, in particular from Greenland, the salinity of the North Atlantic would decrease. It is the high salinity and cold that makes water sink in the North Atlantic that is one of the main drivers of the thermohaline circulation. That circulation drags warm waters from the equatorial regions towards the the North Atlantic and greatly warms the weather of Europe in particular but in fact all of the northern continents.

If the North Atlantic looses salinity because of Greenland glacial melting that current might stop and plunge Europe into an ice age. That is one of the most ironic possible effects of global warming.

  2. Here in oz were hoping the ocean does loose its salinity, were in the worst drought ever here, with major water restrictions going on.

  3. Besides the death of many fish species (learn to eat trout instead of tuna fish), irrigation of the desert areas would be economical.  The Sahara could be a forest again, the middle east and Mexico could be major farming areas.  With much more plants absorbing carbon dioxide, global warming worries would be decreased.  When all you California dudes fall off your surfboards and get a mouthful of water, it won't taste so bad.

  4. all life in the oceans would be destroyed. eventually all ecosystems that depend on the ocean ecosystems would be destroyed. after that, the ecosystems that depend on those ecosystems would be destroyed. in a few years, life as we know it would be completely purged.

  5. If the ocean loses its salinity then there would be no more salt in it....duh
