What would happen if the real ages of the Chinese gymnasts was found to be under the age 16 reqirement?

would the US women's team get the gold?? those chinese girls don't look anywhere near 16, and if an investigation were to discover their real ages, what is the likelihood of their medal being taken back and given to the US?

They are definitely underage. In the Syndey olympics, a different chinese gymnast admitted to being underage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yang_Yun She wasn't stripped of her medal, though.

Time in an time again, China does this. Also, some people think underage gymnasts aren't a problem, and its even more of an achievement. Wrong. Why do you think no olympic gymasts are like 20+ and the youngest possible and like 5 ft. flat. If you are smaller, lighter, and are young with less pressure, performing those tricks are 10 times easier.

Esp. if you have trainign to back it up. Shawn Johnson of America has been training since she was 6. Chinese girls are taken from there family when they are 2-3 and put into super hard training programs until they are 13-14, then sent off to the Olympics underage.

If I'm not mistaken, they will only practice that rule in 2009. So they are eligible to compete.

What if they found out that they are actually 16? Should they be awarded extra gold medals?

Btw, Asians do look younger.

I agree with you they dont look 16, and people have said that chinese age different, but seriously they dont even look close to being 16. I dont think they will strip them of their medals, nor do i think they will give them to the americans. (though that would be great. hahah) I also think they have stopped looking into the age thing, they say their at least 16 and thats how its gonna stay. The person that was talking about how the chinese are trained is actually right. In between the events when they show different things like places around beijing, they actually showed like a school where the gymnasts are trained. They go to school and they do gymnastics and they live in one school. They start at a very young age and only see their parents once or twice a year. So that person was right and didnt deserve to be called an idiot. I thought that was a little mean and rude.

I have also recently learned that if they are of the age of 16th by the end of the year, it is acceptable.

Geez again, at least four of them have been competing internationally for years now and their ages ARE verifiable from past competition records. Its only two of the newer gymnasts that are in question.

Secondly, how the h**l do you know how Chinese people are trained. Don't you think that is rather stereotypical? Watch the Olypmics before you start to judge. Idiot.
