Depending on the efficiency of the appliance, there will be either a net increase or a net decrease of humidity in the room. If both are equally efficient, there will be a concentration gradient of water molecules in the air, this will cause a net movement of water molecules from an area of a higher concentration to an area of a lower concentration. All these could only be guaranteed to happen in a closed system.

Whats the purpose of defeating both? If you have moister in the air a dehumidifier is wanted. In the cold dry air areas a humidifier is needed

The water from the humidifyer would end up in the dehumidifyer. Very easy Q and not very good.

It also depends on whether you turned them on or not.

Eventually the carpet would get wet when the dehumidifier overflowed (unless it has a cutoff switch).

The room would also get hotter and hotter, as the net infusion of energy would be converted to excess heat.

You might also cause a thunderstorm.
