  1. Actually, it IS possible to create a hybrid of organisms that have different numbers of chromosomes.  Take the mule, for instance, which is the product of a male donkey (62 chromosomes) and a female horse (64 chromosomes).  Mules have 63 chromosomes.

Here comes the "but"...the parent organisms must be fairly closely related for the hybridization to work.  Horses and donkeys both belong to the same genus, Equus.  Hybridization between organisms that belong to different genera or families is extremely rare, and you never see hybrids of animals further apart than the family level.  Humans and wolves are not only in a separate family, but in a separate order as well.  The most specific taxon that includes humans and wolves is the class Mammalia.  So if humans and wolves COULD hybridize, then theoretically humans could hybridize with just about any mammal.

I should point out one more thing: even closely related species might not be able to produce hybrid offspring.  It's all about the chromosomes.  If they match up in such a way as to produce a viable offspring, then hybridization can occur, but that must be determined on a case-by-case basis.  There is no simple rule that says "All X can form a hybrid with all Y".

I hope that helps.  Good luck!
