What would happen if you put soda in the microwave-?

This is a really werid question but i was at my familys house today and the maid put half the can of diet pespi in the microwave and then the rest of the can in after 20 seconds. When one of my family members went to drink the soda it had a horrid smell and my mom smelt it and said it was like antifreeze. what happened and is this bad??

OH MY GOSH! I think your maid is trying to poison you. Putting metals in the microwave when they contain liquid causes a holipheromonic effect which changes the way the liquid molecules are bonded together. NEVER drink anything the maid gives you if you want to live.

I'm not sure what happened but I don't think its a good thing specially if it smelled like antifreeze.

the smell probably has to do with Nuking the CAN more so than the soda.

It could be a heat reaction to the artificial sweetener in the soda.  I wouldn't recommend drinking it, but it shouldn't be harmful.

If I'm correct, she didn't put the can in, right?  Metal in a microwave can be harmful to it.

i think it sounds like a : "Kbo0o0om" ... the gases in it expand and want to have more space because they gained energy from the heat and therefore break out of the can.
