(Suits are irrelevant in this case)

On the table; Queen, King, 3, Jack, 5

Player A has a Queen and an 8

Player B has a Queen and a 6

Now, the way I see it, is the rules say the person with the highest hand of five cards wins. Using that logic;

Player A has; Pair of Queens, King, Jack and 8

Player B has; Pair of Queens, King, Jack and 6

So Player A wins.

However, some fellow gentlemen playing a game a few hours ago concluded that after the original best draw (Pair of Queens for each player), only one kicker is considered, in this case it would be a Pair of Queens each, and then a King kicker each as well(otherwise it would be a kicker, and then a kicker kicker, and so on if that makes any sense), and so the pot was a split.

But this goes against the principle aim of making the best hand of five cards you can, using the 7 available to you. The table was split 50/50 on the matter.

So who is correct?

A few others and myself are convinced Player A wins, but then again the others are convinced it is a Split.

  1. your def right! player A would win! i have no idea why they would split the pot!

    seams as thought they making the rules as they go  along! hope you aint playing for alot of money or id be really annoyed lol!

  2. player A wins outright....his 5 card hand is a pair of Q's with kickers: K, J, and 8

    the other player has a pair of Q's, K, J, 6

    the people you are playing with are morons and or amateurs.

  3. Player A wins with the 8 Kicker.  Its the best out of five cards not just the one kicker after the pair.  It goes to the next highest card and if theyre the same then it goes again and so on until 5.  If still the same after 5 cards then its a split pot... The dude is WRONG!!!

  4. I am a texas holdem dealer at a casino, player a with Q 8 wins as the has the 8 kicker, player A'S winning hand is QQKJ8, when it comes to a situation where a kicker is needed to decide a pot the kicker is always the one in the persons hand, unless all cards on the board are higher than the players kickers e.g.

    If the situation were:

    Player A = Q 8

    Player B = Q 6

    Board = Q K 9 J 5

    then it would be a split pot as the 9 is higher than both players kickers so they both have the same hand being QQK9J and so the pot is split

  5. You are definitely right player A wins. It is the best hand out of all 7 cards.

  6. you are right, player A wins

    best five cards out of seven, each of the five cards is important
