  1. Nothing really. If you think lightning strikes the water and your turn like BBQ that is not always true. The water must have dissolved ions in order for the water to actually conduct a electrical current. Water is usually a insulator but turns into a conductor if dissolved ions are in the water.

    but doesn't lightning's energy get grounded once it hits a huge body of water? unlike when it hits and fries a person on land...

    what creates the crack that thunder makes? is the electrical speed breaking the sound barrier?
