If the Moon was destroyed the Earth would spin out of control due to the loss of gravitational pull, and cause one side of The Earth to be freezing cold, and the other like a desert. We would also be more susceptible to meteorite strikes. Humanity would be wiped out in a short space of time.

No major damage happens, to earth, it may tilt by few degrees, if a very big junk hits the Earth. But loss of life is sure to happen.
