What would happen to a fish in a uncycled tank.?

My friend just started a saltwater fish tank. He is asking me if he added a fish in a uncycled tank, how long would it survive with proper water changes every week.

WHAT?! HE PUT A FISH IN AN UNCYCLED TANK?! Unless that fish is a damsel it's survival rate is very very slim. NEVER put a fish other than a damsel in a saltwater tank that is less than a month old, uncycled, or (shown in tests) chemically unstable!!!!!!! Tell him if its not a damsel to get it out and back to the store ASAP! He can pick up the fish again when his tank is stable enough to suit the poor fish's health!

All depends of the tank's size. Normally a weekly change won't harm the fishes.
