  1. Out in the middle of the ocean, or docked?

A tsunami wave travels below the surface.  You won't notice it if you're out in the open.  Once the wave reaches shallow ground, that's when the wave goes above sea level.

Thus, if you're out in the middle of the ocean, it's just be an ordinary day.  If you're docked, the boat will be thrown in-land.

  2. It would fly if it went directly at you. Like how you did with the toy ;D

  3. if the wave doesn't feel bottom (water is too deep for the wave to start to curl or roll over), the boat will go down, and then up and then back down.  If it is in a shallow area, it will get swept along and likely get wrecked.

  4. Nothing would happen to ship or a boat on the open ocean. In fact the people aboard wouldn't even notice the wave. In open ocean, the wave is actually a pulse of water with it's force under the surface.

Unlike the movies, an actual tsunami isn't a huge wave that crashes on to the shore. It's a surge of water that just keeps coming. And not a wave at all as we imagine it. So if a boat was close enough to shore, it would be carried up on the land with the water.

  5. the first 2 answers are correct.

out in the ocean, you'd never notice it.

    near shore is different.

    them there's a problem.

one might keep the original name in mind.

    "tidal wave".

some folks didn't like that name, because it really wasn't a tide.

it was faster, and higher, and more dangerous, and has a far greater volume.

one might remember the  images of the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia.
