I want to flood the Dead Sea! It would be fun! Surely, the salinity would go down and it would sustain more life - which would be good for the environment, at least a little! More plankton, more CO2 consumption! What's the point in having a DEAD sea?!?!?

  1. Not a lot.

I think the Dead Sea is about one thousand feet below sea level so most of the Jordan Valley would be flooded.

The Mediterranean would lose some water but would gain an equal amount from the Atlantic and all other oceans

  2. There have been a number of project like this planned, using canals or tunnels to bring water from the Med or Aquaba to the Dead sea.  The difference in level would be used to generate electricity and also lift he level of water in the  Dead sea, which has been shrinking for years now because of water used for irrigation and domestic use.

The level of salinity is so very high, that even if diliuted, no noemal life would live there (except from exotic bacteria).

  3. good questioln but i dont recomend you try it

  4. Any canal that links bodies of water at different elevations uses locks to change the elevation and prevent flooding. So if you built your canal, it would need locks, otherwise you'd get flooding at the lower (Dead Sea) end.

  5. Nothing, or at least statistically insignificant.
