theoretically speaking, if someone took 4 tablets of 54 milligrams of concerta all at once as well as consume say a half bottle of sherry, what would happen to the person?

  1. At minimum, this person would need immediate medical attention for a physical evaluation and vitals monitoring until the person has metabolized the Concerta and the ETOH and is out of danger.  I'm not an MD and I don't know what further  aggressive medical intervention, if any, might be necessary.

A patient like this would also be seen by social work or psychiatry at the hospital before being discharged to evaluate for a substance abuse problem or a suicide attempt, so that the patient would have referrals to the appropriate follow-up care after discharge.

Are you asking this question because someone has already done this?  Has this happened just now?  If so, you need to call 911 now.  The earlier this person gets medical attention, the better.

If you asked this question because you're wondering if this will work as a suicide method for yourself:  No, probably not, although you could succeed in waiting around on an organ donor list for years waiting for a new liver.

My advice (which you didn't ask for) is to form a mental picture yourself in 3 years.  Then ask yourself if the current  circumstances and events in your life that have you so upset will still matter to you three years from now.   Because the truth is that most of the things we tear out our hair over is relatively minor stuff in the larger scheme of things, and all of that will be gone and forgotten in 3 years (or 1 year or whatever time frame you choose).  For the very few things you're upset over today that will still matter in 3 years, they will work themselves out, one way or another. . .not always the way you want them to, but resolved nonetheless.

This is all a long-winded reminder that there can't be current problems that are worth committing suicide over, not if you can step back enough to get some perspective.  Things will change.  You want to still be here  when they do.
