  1. Consider the differences between a 200-lb man standing on the equator and a 200 lb man standing at the north pole.

Gravity would not change, but think about that sudden stop for someone at the equator.. if the earth is 24000 mile circumference then the person at the equator is traveling about 1000 miles per hour - so if you'll be easy on the definition of "suddenly", that person will be ok.

  2. Gravity would not change. It depends only on the mass of the earth.

After you recover from the shock, and assuming you are still in one piece, you might feel a tad heavier because the centripetal acceleration provided by the rotation would be gone.

  3. Gah! Death cold, one side hot the other cold :P

  4. well we wouldnt have to worry about that because we would all go slamming through a wall at 7000 mph and die anyways..

  5. Granted if the earth slowed at a minute rate of acceleration, enough to slow the earth without everything being throw eastward, the affect would be very minute. The force of the earth's rotation on gravity is a small fraction of a percent, the actual number escapes me. You wouldn't be able to feel any difference. Just as the sun and moon pull on you during the day, they too have such small impacts on the amount of gravity experienced that you wouldn't not notice a thing.

  6. If the earth stops rotating, the gravity on its suface will increase a little bit because centrifugal force due to earth's rotation stops acting.

  7. Exactly zero.

  8. Earth's gravitational field would remain, but if the core stopped rotating along with Earth, then two major problems would arise. First, we would no longer have protection from solar wind if the magnetic field was shut down. Second, one side of Earth would be receiving sunlight, but the other side would not.

  9. nothing will happen to the gravity, right?
