  1. Of course the moons gravitational influence would also disappear thus the tide changes also. The earth's balance would be affected. Excellent question. Possibly extensive computer modeling could give some insight....james the hollow earth man

  2. There would still be waves, because the sun causes that.  There just wouldn't be any high tides or low tides.

  3. If the Moon disappeared then the tides would reduce in strength by about two thirds. There would still be tides, because the Sun causes tides, too

Michel Verheughe  - appreciated your comment, thank you.

  4. It would affect the ocean tides!

    *laughing*

    And moons don't disappear!

  5. If the moon disappeared, there goes climatic stability

  6.   The sea would survive quite well without the moon, there would be no tides but every thing else would stay the same.

  7. Just to give a thumb-up to Elizabeth because she is right: The sun accounts for one third of the tide!

  8. There would be no High and Low tides because there would no longer be a magnetic pull from the moon.

  9. The tides would stop and as far as the moon disapearing they have found the moon is slowly moving away from the earth in a few billion years theyll be no moon thats if no astroyed hits hit and desinagrates it and it becomes the rings of the earth.

  10. winds and storms create waves as well....

there wouldn't be any changing tides tho. there are a few other ways i can't think of off the top of my head....

as the moon moves around the earth it has a pull (less then the pull of the earth ont he moon, but it pulls none the less) this pull, has it's greatest visible effect on the oceans since water moves freely... this effect is what creates high and low tides, the high tide follows the moon around (on both sides of the earth) the areas perpendicular (to the sides) receive low tides.

as for moons don't disappear.... where do you think saturns rings came from?

  11. the moon affects the tides etc

if the moon dissappered however it may affect certain species of creatures, who tend to come to shore to mate when the moon is out...
