What would happen to your cells if a hypotonic solution were played directly into your bloodstream?

  1. A hypotonic solution has more solutes in it than the surrounding solution. This means that in order for the system to stabilize with this new influx of fluid, the solutes from this new solution would have to diffuse into the bloodstream. This can cause disruptions in many processes, especially if the solute in this added solution is toxic.  More importantly though, this would cause blood cells to uptake massively, and in doing so cause them to lyse.


  2. are you talking about specifically what happens if this wer injected into you..

    or just the effects of a cell in a hypotonic solution?
