  1. the demand for it to drop considerably, which isn't going to happen anytime soon sorry to say

  2. Nationalize the oil and gas industries . Or threat to do so very strongly .

  3. A drop in demand for the stuff.

People have been developing excellent viable alternatives to oil/gas for many decades but most governments have allowed the oil companies to pressure them to obstruct and even forbid these alternatives from entering the market until now when it's really hurting. It is nothing less than sheer stupidity that while most western nations regard the OPEC nations with distrust or even contempt we are content to be dependent upon their oil when all along we have had viable alternatives available to us. The fuel price in America is still disproportionately low in comparison with other western nations and the amount America uses. But how about the Isreali's? They produce no oil and have to get it from their traditional enemy nations surrounding them. So they have at last taken the innitiative and embarked upon a national program to make all of their cars electric.

  4. Hidden in one of the real reasons why gas prices have exploded but they will never ad mitt is the usage factor..10yrs ago the average american car averaged city and highway about 19mpg, today its up 2 about 24 and climbing..Car makers were starting 2 explore mass production of alternative fuels..but it was honda and toyota that got the ball rolling with the synergy drives..Seeing this  oil producers knew it would nt be far that U would have cars that were getting 40mpg that had power and didn't have 2 be plugged in 12 hrs a day...So they started rising the price blaming it  on everything from hurricanes( did u realize that b4 Katrina there was never a hurricane in the gulf:)   ) 2 chinese demand to Iran speculations, anything but we as the oil company know that u have a car that gets 40mpg and that equals less usage of fuel so will make up the difference in a price hike , so $3 doesn't seem so bad. Especially 2 someone who just started driving, they cant figure what the complaining is about..My guess is, U wont see under $3 gas because $3.50 seems like a bargin now...
