Question:

What would it take... (question about the sun)?

scientifically, what would it take to change the pattern of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west TO rising in the west and setting in the east???

would it not take YEARS of climate change and orbit change to successfully achieve this?

this does come from some reading i've done on the whole belief that the world will encounter a catastrophic apocalypse in 2012. i'm just extremely skeptical, and working to disprove the theory.

thanks to anybody who takes the time to help me. :)

  1. The Sun does not revolve about the Earth. The Earth revolves and is in orbit about the Sun. You cannot reverse the revolution of the Earth on its own axis that gives us day and night. 5.9742 x 1024 kilograms is the approximate mass of the Earth. The rotational speed at the equator is standardised at 29.77 km/s. A cursory look at these figures show that there is no way in nature that the Earth can bring its revolutions to a halt and start them up in the other direction without turning itself into a ring of debris.

you can get much information in this website, stay a minute in website and check anyone link at a time, you can aslo get your answer in Google Search in this website, which has helped me alot

  3. It could happen from two ways, both involving the rotation of the Earth.  If the Earth was to simply stop rotating, then it's progression in it's orbit would cause the Sun to appear to SLOWLY move from west to east, with one day taking one year.  The other way would be by a reversal of the Earth's rotation, which would make that effect even quicker.  The amount of energy required for either one of these events would be huge. You are right to be skeptical, as this 2012 catastrophe is just the latest in an endless series of doomsday hoaxes out there.
