I'm just wondering because I have put almost $75,000 in a donation fund over the years (my parents started that when I was younger for charity work) I think I could do it.

  1. where do you want to do this??I actually want to do the same thing in east africa, but I don't have money to donate yet....

that sounds like a good idea, you should go for it. also, you can use the money you have to raise more!

  2. Why would you want infants to live in an institution and be cared for by people who go home after their shift?

And older children who are relinquished by their birth parents or removed from them due to abuse or neglect are placed into state custody and therefore state foster care, or group homes with (usually) 24 hour house parents.

That is where our money and time and effort need to go!  Private group homes for older children.

I'm glad you are thinking about this....you are obviously a generous person.

  3. I would suggest opening an orphanage in a third world country.   The orphans in many third world countries are not only alone, starving, and without shelter or clothing.  They are scorned.  I think it would be a very wonderful thing to start an organization that would give them what they need.  I volunteered at an orphanage in Kenya, and the kids there didn't have any of their needs met.  It was absolutely heartbreaking.  They only ate one maybe two small meals a day, they didn't have proper beds, they all had lice, they didn't have proper staff, or proper medical care, or proper education, the place was crowded, crumbling, and filled with rats (I could go on forever.)  Plus, in a third world country it would cost a fraction of what it would cost in the U.S.  Your money would go farther.

If you are interested in doing that, first try volunteering at some orphanages in those countries.  There you could find out exactly how to go about doing it.

A great organization is Kids World Wide.  If you are thinking about volunteering!

Good luck.  I think you are a wonderful person!

  4. Do we even have orphanages in North America still?  I know I've seen them overseas but not back home here.

  5. It would cost hundreds upon Hundreds of thousands of dollars to open an orphanage

Google Cost of Opening a Orphanage and Cost of Running an Orphanage and that will give you an idea

Then you have to have the means to staff and fit out the orphanage and provide the ongoing necessities

I think your idea is a lovely one, and you definitely want to make sure the funds go to the right place.

Maybe you could approach a financier to help you ?

    Best of Luck To you
