What would kill a deer in VT?

My dog brought back very large bones which I believe are from a deer. They were still covered in blood. What would kill a deer in VT? I know coyotes don't usually kill deer and neither do bears, so what could it be? This was not near a road and it is not hunting season.

Actually Coyotes do kill deer. We thought for many years that Coyotes hunted alone, but research now says they also hunt in packs.

Other things that can kill a deer in VT are cars, cougars, wolves other deer and hunters.

Yep, there have been sightings of Cougars and Wolves in VT.
